Our Saunas

The range

Five models, each with its own size and shape. Every sauna is handcrafted in South Africa and installed by the same team who built it.

Why a sauna

The benefits

Heart health

Regular sauna use raises the heart rate in a way comparable to moderate exercise, and is associated with improved cardiovascular function.

Recovery

Heat increases blood flow to tired muscles and can support recovery after exercise.

Circulation

Heat causes blood vessels to widen, while cooling causes them to contract, supporting healthy circulation.

Pain relief

Warmth can relax muscles and ease joint stiffness, helping you feel more comfortable after a long day or physical activity.

Sleep

As your body cools after a sauna, it naturally begins to prepare for sleep. Many people find that a sauna helps them sleep better.

Stillness

Perhaps the simplest benefit. A sauna gives you space to slow down, switch off and simply be.

The Timber

Nordic Pine

Naturally refined, thermally enhanced

We build with imported Nordic Pine from Finland. The timber is thermally treated, improving its stability and suitability for outdoor use.

Over time, the timber naturally weathers in the South African sun, developing a soft silver-grey finish. We use OSMO 420 on the exterior to help slow this process.

Nordic Pine has an expected outdoor service life of 30 years. Certificates are available on request.

ThermoWood is chemical-free

Modified using heat alone. Nothing is added to the timber.

Strength and stability

Thermal treatment reduces cupping and movement outdoors.

Renewable Nordic forests

Sustainably sourced from managed Finnish forestry.

Engineered by heat

An expected outdoor lifespan of 30 years.

Maintenance

Looking after your BANYA

The interior is treated with Supi Saunawachs, which protects the timber and brings out the grain. Please don’t use anything else on it — other treatments soak into untreated wood and release fumes when the sauna is heated.

We recommend OSMO 420. It isn’t essential, but it keeps the timber looking and performing at its best against sun and rain.

Use only light natural soaps. Distilled white vinegar mixed with some warm water will freshen up the benches and kill any bacteria.

Go easy. Occasional ladles are what the heater is built for; heavy or frequent dousing shortens its life. Do not use water if the temperature is below 60 degrees.

Yes. Timber expands and contracts, and small amounts of water can find their way through. The roof over the barrel keeps it to a minimum, and excess water from pouring on the rocks drains out of the bottom of the sauna.

Get in touch and we'll sort it out. We keep parts for the saunas we build.

Guarantee

What we stand behind

The Nordic Pine we build with is thermally treated and has an expected outdoor service life of 30 years untreated. That’s an independently assessed lifespan for the timber rather than a guarantee period. The certificates are available on request.

Three years on workmanship, covering any defect in how the sauna was built. We stay available for support well beyond that — call-out fees apply after the guarantee period.

Yes. All heaters carry a one-year guarantee from Harvia.
