More than a sauna
How it started
It started with one sauna, built at home.
BANYA began with founder Nic Red’s search for a better sauna experience at home. A regular sauna user, Nic wanted something that delivered the heat, quality and durability he expected — and that could live comfortably outdoors in the South African climate.
When he couldn’t find it, he decided to build it himself.
The first BANYA sauna took shape in Nic’s garage. Through plenty of trial, refinement and hands-on problem solving, that first build became the foundation for something bigger.
Today, BANYA has grown into a team of six working from a dedicated local workshop. Every sauna is handcrafted using thermally treated Nordic Pine, with each detail continually refined for performance, quality and longevity.

Timber chosen for our climate
Thermally treated Nordic Pine from Finland — chemical-free, dimensionally stable, and with an expected outdoor service life of 30 years. It silvers in the sun, which we slow down with OSMO 420.
